"In a photo posted Wednesday that has since gone viral,
a stingray steals the spotlight (with the apparent help of one strong
man holding him up). We're guessing they didn't need to purchase a
postcard after this extra-special (but perhaps a little reluctant) close
Target has got some pretty stellar stuff right now (check out here too; a fav blogger of mine!) . . . loving the shoe selection; so many replicas of high end brand names . . . I am thinking I need one of each?!
And I am especially becoming addicted to gold spray paint! I can't believe how easily you can transform the look of a room by painting a key piece or a few small accessories . . . I am painting a few things for the girls rooms which I will post soon, but here are a few pieces from this weekend.
Emerson helped me pick a huge bag of pine-cones from a park by our house that she has aptly named "Pine-cone Valley" and I sprayed some orange and gold (I also did some navy blue for a different area in the house!)
This was the easiest little project! Just took some painters tape and taped off the toes in some old Steve Madden brown leather heels (be sure to tape of the sole of the shoe also) and sprayed them gold (seen here, here & here)
Over the weekend I also found this amazing recipe, which resulted in Emerson and I having to quickly get our bums to the store to pick up the "four" ingredients!!! Pretzels, butter, brown sugar, and chocolate chips! I think next time I may add a little vanilla to the caramel, or mint extract or coconut! And I love the idea of making it and putting in a glass canning jars for little holiday treats at Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. It is so fast and easy (no brainer) that this may become my "signature" sweet!
Go now and make this . . . you will thank me later!
This video of the teeniest artist blew me away . . . on so many levels.
for one, it is a ethereal beautiful video and even though it is 15 minutes long (I know when I saw that I thought I would watch a minute or so and then be done) I could not turn it off . . . I had to see what Aelita created . . .
it calmed me; slowed my heart and my breathing
it soothed me
it healed me
it reminded me that the world and how you see it is all in how you perceive it
it left me wanting to be free and careless
I want a room like that, one where there are no concerns, no mistakes, no limitations
I want my girls to experience this absolute freedom, to create without boundaries, to play without being hoovered over for messes and spills, to explore the world around them, their place in it, and their feelings out loud
The TV!!!!! I don't watch TV at all really but when Fall rolls around I have a few "can't miss" shows. Although with 2 babes and working full-time we never watch them on the night they air . . . we DVR them and watch on a Friday or Saturday night cuddles up on the sofa and I LOVE IT!!!! Here are my fav's . . .
Another "secret love" of mine for Fall? . . . . Football! Yes I said it, I love football season and its not so much that I actually watch any of the games (occasionally) but I love when Mr. Hotpants is watching football and it is on in the background while I'm making pumpkin bread with Emerson or drinking tea and watching the girlies play. The lyrical aspect of having Football on gives me a sense of family, of bonding, of game-day BBQ's and yummies, socializing and relaxing and casual get togethers . . . it's just cozy.
One of the first blogs I fell in love with was "A Cup of Jo" by Joanna Goddard. She writes wonderfully, loves completely and let's us see her vulnerability. I feel like she is one of those friends you have had since grade school . . . you know the ones.
A few weeks back I saved this quote from her blog; it is her husbands response to a having a happy marriage . . .
Here's what he told me this morning: "The secret to a long and happy
marriage is not the idea that nothing bad is ever going to happen. But
it's that when something bad happens, you know how to get through it
together. One of the most important things is that when you're having an
argument, instead of ratcheting up the emotion, you diffuse it. In the
middle of a fight, say, "I love you; you're the most important person in
the world to me," even if at that moment, those words are the hardest
ones to choke out because you're so mad. It reminds you both of the big
picture. It doesn't make it instantly better, but it takes it down a
notch. And in the cool-down period afterward, you're not left
questioning. You know everything is going to be ok. Half an hour after
the fight, it's over and you feel good."
I think this is a wonderful and refreshing skill . . . I really want to try it . . .
She also recommended this article and it is a fantastic read; down to earth and realistic. I think all couples should read this (ahem you too Mr. Hotpants) . . . . have you noticed that everything worthwhile requires hard work and dedication? Your marriage deserves the exact same commitment.
I always love fall toddler & baby clothes . . . and J. Crew never disappoints! but at the rate my girls grow and go through clothes it just doesn't make sense to buy from there (when they are a little older and may wear items a little longer before growing out of them, then OK) . . . . Enter Old Navy . . . they have some great alternatives that are almost exactly like CrewCuts!
